Abstract
Various physiological differences lead to significant differences in therapeutic drug monitoring(TDM) and toxicology between children and adults. These factors include differences in gastric pH, intestinal transit time, membrane permeability, liver maturity, first-pass metabolism, renal clearance, protein binding, protein concentration, and enzyme activities. These differences lead to significant variations in pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics among children and adults. Understanding of these differences further requires understanding of pharmacogenetic and pharmacogenomic principles.
