Abstract

Pericardial cysts are typically considered a congenital anomaly of the anterior and middle mediastinum, with most patients diagnosed via incidental findings on routine chest imaging. They represent a small proportion of mediastinal masses but a substantial proportion of mediastinal cysts. Most are asymptomatic at presentation, and when symptoms occur, they are usually related to compression of adjacent mediastinal, pulmonary, or cardiac structures rather than intrinsic malignant behavior.
