Description of Contents
Describes Dr. Katharine Berry Richardson's part in starting the Pediatric Department of Wheatley-Provident Hospital, and describes several pediatric cases. Kansas City was segregated, so Dr. Richardson found it difficult to take in African-American children into The Children's Mercy Hospital. Frustrated, she worked with Dr. Perry and found donors to support a pediatric department at Wheatley-Provident, where African-American children could find treatment and African-American doctors could be trained in pediatric medicine. This article contains Dr. Richardson's quotation "I have not served the children of American unless I have served all."
