Abstract
This textbook represents the sixth edition of a textbook which was first published in 1980 under the direction of Drs. Tom Holder and Keith Ashcraft. One of the underlying tenets of this book has always been to make it as readable as possible. In the Preface of the second edition, Drs. Holder and Ashcraft wrote ‘Our intent is to provide a book that has a clear explanation of a subject done in a readable style.’ For this edition and previous ones, authors have been selected because of their expertise about their chapter's subject matter and their writing ability. Also, because many pediatric general surgeons outside the United States have a significant part of their practice in urology, we have continued to emphasize this subject in the sixth edition. As minimally invasive surgery (MIS) continues to weave its way more and more into mainstream pediatric surgery and urology, the MIS approach is emphasized in most of the chapters as well.

Comments
“Overall, this continues to be the best book in the field of pediatric surgery. It is well organized, well presented, and well supplemented, while continuing to be readable and understandable by all.”Robert Arensman, MD (University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine), Doody's Review: 5 stars
