Abstract
Rheumatic diseases are rare overall with variations in disease prevalence and severity across the globe. The field of rheumatology encompasses a collection of diverse, largely systemic diseases caused by a dysregulated immune system. The hallmark of each disease includes chronic inflammation affecting the musculoskeletal system, vasculature, or other organ systems. Adherence measurement and research is an evolving field in rheumatic diseases because of its rapidly changing treatment landscape. Following a large drug development boom in the early 2000s, much is being learned about disease pathogenesis and optimum therapeutic targets.
