Abstract

Purpose of Review

This comprehensive review explores pediatric dysphagia, a complex condition affecting children’s ability to swallow. The review discusses the prevalence, etiology, and assessment methods for diagnosing dysphagia, emphasizing the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in its management.

Recent Findings

Dysphagia affects many children across different patient populations. The review discusses the advances in diagnostic tools, including high-resolution esophageal and pharyngeal manometry, endoluminal functional lumen imaging probes, and interdisciplinary aerodigestive programs. These developments aim to provide more accurate assessments tailored to children with dysphagia.

Summary

Pediatric dysphagia is a multifaceted issue with various etiologies and significant consequences for a child’s health and quality of life. Thus, early identification is essential. Diagnosis involves various clinical and instrumental methods, making collaborative care models increasingly important to provide personalized care in children with dysphagia.
