Abstract

Promoting equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in the pharmacy profession is crucial for ensuring equitable healthcare delivery both in the United States and internationally. This chapter underscores the significance of fostering a diverse workforce to reflect the care offered to various patient populations. Achieving EDI in pharmacy involves addressing disparities in recruitment, education, and career advancement. Emphasizing formalized training and educational competence in EDI-specific topics is essential for advancing the profession and providing patient-centered care. Moreover, this chapter stresses the importance of creating an inclusive workplace culture that values different perspectives and backgrounds. EDI initiatives not only enhance the profession’s representation but also contribute to improved outcomes by acknowledging and addressing diverse populations. In summary, cultivating EDI in the discipline of pharmacy is integral to advancing the pharmacy workforce, achieving equitable outcomes, and fostering a more responsive and all-encompassing healthcare environment, resulting in improved patient care.
