Abstract
Teamwork is a fundamental characteristic of life that is deeply embedded into the nature of work. Highly effective teams can significantly increase productivity and outcome success, but ineffective teams can hinder performance with as great an effect. As teams become increasingly complex, the necessity of team training has become more pronounced. Developing team training programs, however, can be challenging due to the variable and dynamic nature of teamwork. This chapter describes the use of game-based simulation training and the integration of adaptive training principles to promote engaging and effective team training. We accomplish this by synthesizing team training theory and its applications, introducing game-based learning and game-based simulation principles, and providing guidance in developing adaptive game-based simulation training for small teams.
