Abstract

Complications in children with gastroesophageal reflux disease are frequently brought to the attention of pediatric surgeons for management. This chapter describes the pathophysiology of reflux, the natural barriers that protect patients against reflux, and the current understanding of the medical management for this condition. Also, changes in the diagnostic evaluation of these patients as well as the operative management are also discussed. Finally, our currently used laparoscopic fundoplication technique and data that support these changes are described and discussed.
