Abstract
Over the past couple of decades, the complexity of surgical procedures and patient acuity has increased. Despite this, anesthetizing children has become an increasingly safe undertaking. To provide optimal perioperative care it is imperative that both the surgeon and anesthesiologist collaborate to ensure the patient is both optimized for surgery and has a smooth recovery. The objective of this chapter is to inform pediatric surgeons of important considerations from a pediatric anesthesiologist's point of view as well as to highlight the full range of ways pediatric anesthesiologists can contribute to patients' perioperative experience.
