Abstract
Anorectal malformation may present with a spectrum of anatomical presentations, requiring individualized treatments for the newborn diagnosed with this entity. Frequent cooccurrence of additional diagnoses such as vertebral defects, cardiac defects, tracheoesophageal fistula, renal anomalies, and limb abnormalities, collectively known as VACTERL association, impact care, screening, and prognosis. Understanding anatomic concerns, implications of reconstructive decisions, preoperative planning, and surgical technique all focus on maximizing functional results and long-term outcomes.
