We are pleased to announce the Call for Abstracts for the 2024 Children’s Mercy Kansas City (CMKC) GME Research Days presented May 13-17, 2024. All compelling scientific research and quality improvement projects generated by Residents and Fellows (postdoctoral and medical) will be considered for presentation in one of two formats – poster or oral presentation. It should be noted that GME has the expectation that all trainees who have received financial support for a project from CMKC will participate in Research Days. Medical Student, Ph.D., and other trainees (master's and undergraduate) research projects supported and performed solely at CMKC will be considered for poster presentations for 2024.
Abstracts must be submitted using the electronic template appropriate for the project (research vs QI (Quality Improvement)).
- Research abstracts should include background, a working hypothesis, data with analysis, and results prior to presentation at Research Days.
- QI abstracts should include a problem statement, aim statement, description of PDSA (Plan Do Study Act) cycles, and results prior to presentation at Research Days.
- Case reports should be submitted using the research template. Case reports will be accepted for presentation in poster format at the discretion of the Research Days Committee.
Submission Guidelines:
- Utilize the appropriate template for abstract submission (research vs QI).
- Please list only one faculty member in the Primary Mentor field. Additional faculty members may be recognized on the last slide of your presentation or as acknowledgements on your poster.
- Abstracts are limited to 2600 characters including spaces and title.
Selection for Presentation/Schedule for Research Days:
- The Research Days Committee will review, and score all submitted abstracts.
- QI Abstracts will be presented on Monday, May 13, 2024
- Top abstracts will be presented as platform presentations
- Remaining QI abstracts will be presented as posters
- QI platform presentations will be scored by judges
- Highest scoring platform presentation will receive a monetary award and recognition at the GME Awards Ceremony on June 10, 2024. A Certificate of Participation will be awarded to each trainee presenting a poster or platform presentation at Research Days
- The Primary Mentor for each submitted abstract will receive a Certificate of Appreciation
- Research Abstracts will be presented on Tuesday-Friday, May 14-17, 2024
- Top abstracts will be presented as platform presentations
- Remaining abstracts will be presented as posters
- Research abstracts will be scored by judges
- Two highest scoring platform presentations will receive a monetary award and recognition at the GME Awards Ceremony on June 10, 2024
- A Certificate of Participation will be awarded to each trainee presenting a poster or platform presentation at Research Days
- The Primary Mentor for each submitted abstract will receive a Certificate of Appreciation
Professional Expectations:
- Presenting authors are encouraged to block schedules for all applicable dates/times at the time of abstract submission. Authors will be notified of presentation date/time by Friday, March 15, 2024.
- QI abstracts: Monday, May 13, 2024, from 11:30 AM-1:30 PM
- Research abstracts: Tuesday-Friday, May 14-17, 2024, from 11:30 AM-1:30 PM
- Presenting authors are expected to meet all deadlines and respond promptly to all electronic communication from members of the Research Days Committee. Lack of response will be forwarded to the Primary Mentor and GME office for further follow-up.
- A PowerPoint template will be provided to the presenting author upon notification of selection as a platform presentation. It is expected that this format will be utilized.
- Platform presentations must be presented by the submitting trainee author
- A Poster template will be provided to the presenting author upon notification of selection as a platform presentation. It is expected that this format will be utilized. If the primary submitting trainee author is not available for presentation of the poster, the poster may be presented by another trainee author on the project
- Presenting authors who chose to decline to present an accepted abstract, in either platform or poster format, must submit written permission from GME to the Research Days Committee at the time of declination.
